UK’s first ever race correspondent shortlisted for Black Talent Award

The Independent’s Race Correspondent, Nadine White, has been shortlisted in the UK Black Talent Awards 2022. Upon joining The Independent in March 2021, White became the first dedicated Race Correspondent in UK journalism, and is the only journalist to appear as a finalist in this year’s awards.

The Black Talent programme highlights – and champions – Black talent across a range of industries and sectors, showcasing role models and emerging talents in their fields.

Since joining The Independent, she has been at the forefront of race issues in the country and has led investigations into key issues, such as the Child Q scandal and the fallout from the recent Royal Tour of the Caribbean.

Nadine has already previously been recognised for her work, including winning the inaugural Paulette Wilson Windrush Award, from the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival in 2020 and appearing on the 2021 Forbes ’30 Under 30’ Media and Marketing list.

The Independent says that the correspondent is instrumental in driving forward it’s mission of ‘Making Change Happen’, and in commenting on the news herself, Nadine said:

“These prizes recognise Black people across various industries who have ‘thrived against the odds’; my back story is not that well known but I’m incredibly proud to have overcome tragedies and tribulations along my journey. I hope, as ever, to continue to inspire others in all that I do.”

Good luck to our industry representative! And you can find out more about the awards, which will be announced on September 29th, here
