Insider UK: our 20 May 2022 newsletter

Hello and welcome back to Insider, your one stop shop for everything Independent Advertising

In this issue we are covering our US editorial team’s nomination at the Digiday Media Awards, announcing our partnership with Pride in London and looking back at an inspiring evening at the British Media Awards.

Ending the Death Penalty

The Independent is honoured to be a Digiday Media Awards 2022 finalist in the Best Editorial Package category. The shortlisting is in recognition of its End the Death Penalty campaign, which aims to create awareness, encourage action, and ultimately end capital punishment.

The project has simultaneously focused on in-depth coverage to educate audiences about capital punishment, and strengthening corporate buy-in on anti-death penalty work, augmenting companies’ stances to lobby for reform. The overarching goal is to move society – in the US and beyond – to a place where the death penalty is eliminated.

The Independent partners with Pride in London

The Independent is thrilled to announce that it is partnering with Pride in London, with events taking place in June and July this year. It is the only news brand and publisher to do so.

This year’s Pride in London focuses on making powerful statements on the march toward progress, focusing on areas including a national AIDS memorial, protection against hate crimes and banning conversion therapy for all.

The Independent will take an active role in highlighting these issues and their impact on the community through dedicated editorial content. This will build on The Independent’s long history of campaigning with and championing the LGBT+ community, including The Rainbow List, The Pink List and its Equal Partners campaign, which lobbied for equal marriage.

The partnership will also see The Independent provide Pride in London with extensive advertising inventory, meaning that Pride in London can amplify its messages across Britain’s biggest quality news brand and one of the most frequently visited news sites in the world, with a readership of people who are focused on realising positive change. Meanwhile, The Independent team will be marching in the parade to celebrate LGBT+ people and show their commitment to the continued fight against injustice and inequality.

An inspiring British Media Awards

This week The Independent attended the British Media Awards. We are thrilled to say that we are a five-time finalist and were the runner up in both the Brand of the Year and the International Brand of the Year categories.

A big congratulations goes to The Independent’s Chief Revenue Officer, Andrew Morley, who received the highly commended nod for Commercial Leader of the Year.
