As the world marks Pride Month, The Independent has published its annual Pride List, celebrating 50 LGBT+ changemakers and their contribution to modern life. In this installment of Insider we are recapping the list itself alongside some of the powerful editorial that has run alongside it. We also look forward to a new instagram Live series where The Independent joins forces with Latitude Festival.
On Saturday 7 June, The Independent unveiled its annual Pride List, as part of its ongoing commitment to champion and celebrate the LGBT+ community. Formerly the Pink List, and then the Rainbow List – the Pride List is now in its third iteration. This year’s roster features a huge array of influential and inspirational trailblazers from across the worlds of entertainment, sport, business, law, fashion, politics, campaigning and the arts.
Topping the list is Victoria McCloud, a lawyer and former judge. McCloud, a trans woman, was the youngest Master in the High Court of Justice when appointed in 2006 and, in addition to her legal career, is a high-profile advocate for the trans community. Earlier this year, she announced that she is bringing legal action against the UK government following the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman.

As part of its inaugural content partnership with Latitude for 2025, The Independent is bringing exclusive discussions to festival fans in the lead up to the event with a series on Instagram.
Throughout June and into July, weekly interviews will be broadcast as Instagram Live events, with The Independent’s journalists in conversation with some of the brilliant musicians, thinkers and comedians on the Latitude bill. Each talk will focus on one of the main pillars which Latitude is celebrated for, interwoven with insights from expert journalists.
Starting today (9 June) with literature, topics will range across comedy (16 June), debate (23 June), wellness (30 June), and music on the 7 July.
Make sure to be following The Independent on Instagram to keep up with the latest and see here for details of tonight’s Live event – writer and presenter Matt Everitt in conversation with Raynor Winn, the author of The Salt Path. See you at 6pm!
