The Independent and E.ON Next Partner to Launch the UK’s First EV Price Index

New tool breaks down information and price barriers to help consumers understand how to make the greatest saving on the Electric Vehicle (EV) that fits their needs.

The Independent and E.ON Next have today launched the UK’s first EV Price Index. The Index will help those buying an Electric Vehicle (EV) understand the range of discounts, finance offers and energy tariffs available to make owning an EV as affordable as possible.

In doing so, The Independent and E.ON Next are making it easier for consumers when considering making the switch to an electric vehicle. Being able to piece this all together unveils the significant savings that UK drivers can now make, with the analysis showing that in the twelve months to August 2025, the median price of an EV has fallen by £3,750, a 7.7 per cent drop.

Jean Coleman, Commercial Director at E.ON Next, says:; “We’re thrilled to be renewing our partnership with The Independent, this time with an even stronger focus on electric vehicles. Our previous campaigns together have delivered some fantastic results, and we’re excited to build on that success, to leverage The Independent’s strong EV content legacy and continued commitment to the electric vehicle cause and to further highlight the range of tariffs specifically designed for EV drivers.”

The EV Price Index is the latest phase in a multi-year collaboration between The Independent and E.ON Next, building on the success of the dedicated EV Channel. Having driven scale through integrated content that addressed four key motivators proven to encourage EV adoption – cost savings, ease of use, sustainability, and the EV driving experience – the Index now provides actionable insight for those looking to make the switch.

Steve Fowler, EV Editor at The Independent; “With price still a barrier for many potential electric vehicle buyers, the E.ON Next/The Independent EV Price Index is a reliable and trustworthy indicator of the huge downward shift in EV prices and tariffs. However, we’re not just monitoring list prices – we’re analysing real-world discounts that buyers can easily achieve and the finance deals that are currently on offer. It all adds up to a valuable set of tools that will help persuade buyers that now is a great time to switch to an electric car.”

The partnership is the latest example of The Independent’s strategy of engaging in brand partnerships that align with its editorial mission and align with the issues important to its readers. As a leader on environmental journalism that covers climate news, expert analysis and engaging climate lifestyle coverage, The Independent is committed to helping its readers understand how they can take individual, collective and global action.
