The Independent appoints new UK Editor whilst Chief Data Officer joins Independent Media

Independent Media has bolstered its top team with two new appointments, amid an extraordinary year for the global news group.

Chloe Hubbard has been named UK Editor of The Independent, while Stephanie Fabb has been made Chief Data Officer for Independent Media, The Independent’s parent company.

Chloe Hubbard

Chloe Hubbard, who originally joined The Independent in 2017 as Assistant Editor, is elevated to the role of UK Editor following 18 months in post as Deputy Editor. She will report to global Editor-in-Chief Geordie Greig, overseeing the UK newsroom and advancing The Independent’s mission to be the world’s most trusted, biggest and fastest growing news title.

Her appointment reaffirms The Independent’s commitment to delivering trusted, independent journalism, and comes days after new Ipsos Iris figures revealed that The Independent has become Britain’s biggest digital news brand, reaching an audience of 19.6m.

Geordie Greig, Editor-in-Chief of The Independent, said: “Chloe has an exceptional ability to recognise the stories that matter most, coupled with the talent and vision to bring them to life with clarity and impact. I’m so pleased  that after more than seven years at The Independent, she will be taking up the position of UK Editor. She will continue to take our outstanding UK team to new heights as they drive our mission to deliver quality, truly independent journalism that makes change happen.”

Stephanie Fabb

Stephanie Fabb joins Independent Media from Hearst, where she spent three years as Chief Data Officer, and brings more than a decade of experience in data strategy, analytics, MarTech and digital transformation. She takes on a global remit for Independent Media, focusing on leveraging data as a strategic asset to drive continued growth across its portfolio of brands: The Independent, Independent TV, Indy100, IndyBest, BuzzFeed UK, Tasty UK, Seasoned and HuffPost UK, and driving audience engagement in key content verticals.

Fabb commented: “I’m excited to be joining Independent Media, especially at such a pivotal time in its story. We have phenomenal reach and engagement, as evidenced in the success of building over 5 million registered users. It’s imperative that we are relentless in developing our knowledge about our readers to ensure we keep delivering exceptional content and experiences, and so that our relationships with them are even deeper and longer lasting.”

Christian Broughton, CEO of The Independent and Independent Media added: “We finish 2024 as the largest commercial news publisher in the UK and the biggest British-born news site in the US. We achieved a billion video views in the year on our site for Independent TV, and a million purchases were made on IndyBest. That huge success is a direct reflection of our commitment to attracting top-tier talent. With impressive people such as Chloe and Steph on board, backed by a great team spirit right through the organisation, we’re well set to achieve even more remarkable milestones as we head into 2025.”
