The Independent is delighted to announce that it has been nominated in two categories at the Society of Editors’ Media Freedom Awards.

Holly Bancroft, The Independent’s Social Affairs Correspondent, has been nominated for Young Journalist of the Year. Holly joined The Independent as a news reporter in 2021 and has covered a range of UK and international news, including refugees and asylum, housing policy, and religion.

The Independent’s ‘Brick by Brick’ campaign has been shortlisted for Campaign of the Year. This groundbreaking appeal, with domestic abuse charity Refuge, was launched in September 2024 and resulted in the creation of two brand new homes for domestic abuse survivors and their children. Thanks to the generous support of readers, high profile names and businesses, construction of the second home was completed in July, and families are now living in these properties, safe from danger and beginning to rebuild their lives.
