The Independent partners with the NSPCC

London, United Kingdom – 29 July 2022 – The Independent, the UK’s biggest quality digital news brand, today announces that it has partnered with the NSPCC’s Monday Movie Club in support of their service, Childline. The partnership continues The Independent’s drive to work with and support organisations that make change happen.

The club takes place on a monthly basis, with members attending preview screenings of major movies before they hit cinemas around the country. Since its launch ten years ago, the initiative has raised more than £1,000,000 to fund Childline, the NSPCC’s free, 24-hour, confidential counselling service run for children and  young people, which gives them a voice when often they feel they can’t talk to anyone else.

As part of the relationship:

  • The Independent has committed to funding Childline around the UK for a day
  • Independent readers and advertisers will be given the opportunity to win tickets to each screening
  • The Independent will be working with the NSPCC on upcoming fundraising campaigns, with a number of initiatives planned across both editorial and commercial to be announced in due course.

The first screening which The Independent will be partnering with will take place on Tuesday 2nd August and will feature an exclusive preview of Bullet Train, starring Brad Pitt, Karen Fukuhara and Sandra Bullock, courtesy of Sony Pictures.

Commenting on the partnership, The Independent’s Trade Marketing Director, Beth Gordon, said: “The NSPCC and Childline have never been needed more, and we are proud to be supporting their invaluable work. At The Independent, we are committed to making change happen, from our editorial to our partnerships, campaigning with organisations who are dedicated to making the world a better place and individuals who need to be heard.”

Lynne Millar, NSPCC Childline Board member, Founder and Chair of the NSPCC’s Monday Movie Club said: “We are absolutely delighted and grateful that The Independent has teamed up with us to be the headline sponsor of our Monday Movie Club initiative. The Independent will be partnering with us for a year of preview screenings, providing us with fantastic support that will help to raise essential funds for Childline, including funding the service for a day.

“Our Childline service provides a vital lifeline to children and young people, who often have nowhere else to turn. From abuse and neglect to friendship worries, children turn to us about a range of issues. It is essential they have a place they can go where they know they will be heard, particularly after the incredibly challenging last few years. Thanks to the incredible support of The Independent we will be able to provide that to many more vulnerable children and young people.”
