Jordan Rakei, The Staves, and Bess Atwell join the tenth series of The Independent’s Music Box

The Independent is proud to announce its tenth season of its exclusive TV series Music Box, where both established and up-and-coming artists perform stripped-down versions of original songs in The Independent’s on-site studio in London.

Guests for the new series include New Zealand-born musical virtuoso and producer Jordan Rakei, Indie-folk duo The Staves, singer-songwriter Bess Atwell, rock band Wings of Desire, and Belfast-born pop artist Gareth Dunlop with many more to be confirmed.

The tenth season arrives as The Independent’s Music Editor Roisin O’Connor celebrates her tenth year with The Independent, ahead of an exciting summer of festival partnerships with Montreux Jazz Festival, Black Deer, The Great Escape and The Mighty Hoopla.

Launched in 2017, Music Box is a unique platform for emerging artists. The idea came from Roisin’s desire to help support musicians in an increasingly tough and competitive industry. The sessions give acts an opportunity to be featured prominently on The Independent’s platforms, exposing them to millions of potential new listeners.

Previous guests have included then-rising stars such as Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi, Brit Award-winning artist Tom Grennan, Irish singer Nell Mescal, Mercury Prize-nominated artist Olivia Dean, grime legend Ghetts, pop band Bastille, British singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé, and Golden Globe-nominated actor, Damian Lewis

The new series is already underway and episodes will be released each week and you can watch them here.

The Independent’s Music Editor, Roisin O’Connor, said: “I feel so proud of how far Music Box has come since those early days in a tiny studio at our old office in Kensington. This is in no small part thanks to our incredible video team, including our lead producer John Johnston, who have helped make Music Box look and sound better than ever.

“I’m also incredibly grateful to The Independent’s editors for supporting Music Box from the beginning, as we continue to shine a light on some of the best musical talent around. I can’t wait for readers to see the amazing lineup we have in store for season 10!”
